eBooks on EBSCOhost

Searching for an eBook

Viewing an eBook

You may view any eBook in the library's collection as long as it is not checked out by another user. While you are actively using it, no other user will have access to it. If 15 minutes elapse without active use, the eBook is put "back on the shelf" and another user will have access or check it out and have exclusive use of the book.

  • Search for an eBook.
  • Select the eBook Full Text link in the Results list or Detailed Record.
  • The eBook is displayed in the eBook Viewer.

Requirements

In order to download eBooks on EBSCOhost eBooks to your personal computer, you must have the following:

  • Adobe Digital Editions must be installed on your computer. Adobe Digital Editions is available as a free download at http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaled. The software allows you to download and purchase digital content in the industry standard eBook formats - PDF and EPUB.
  • When you install Adobe Digital Editions, you are prompted to authorize and activate your computer in order to read protected items and transfer them to other computers and portable devices. You must have an Adobe ID to authorize your computer, and you are prompted to get one at no charge during the installation.

Important Notes:

    • If you want to transfer eBooks from your computer to a portable device, both the device and the computer must be authorized with the same Adobe ID.
    • If you do not get your no-charge Adobe ID when you install Adobe Digital Editions, you can create an Adobe account and get an Adobe ID at the Adobe Sign In page.   https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm

Checkin:

    EBSCOhost ebooks will automatically expire at the end of the designated lending period. They cannot be returned before the lending period is over.

    1. Remove it from your computer:
    • In Adobe Digital Editions, go to the All Items bookshelf in Library View
    • Select the eBook.
    • If you do not know where the eBook file is located on your computer:
      --- Click the arrow button for the eBook,
      --- Click on Item Info in the drop-down list to view the Item Info box,
      --- Note the file path of the eBook (Note: If you cannot see the full file path in the Item Info box, position your mouse pointer over the file path to display the entire path.)
      --- Click OK to close the box
      --- Click the arrow button for the eBook,
      --- Click on Delete Item in the drop-down list
      --- Click Delete when asked if you are sure.
    • If you know where the eBook file is located on your computer:
    • In Windows Explorer, find the eBook file and delete it.

Compatible Devices

  • In order for an eReader device to be used with eBooks on EBSCOhost, it must be compatible with Adobe Digital Editions. You'll find Adobe's list of compatible devices located here.
  • Compability with Apple devices (iPad/iPhone/iPod...) All eBooks on EBSCOhost are compatible with iOS devices. a DRM capable app may be required to download and read the eBooks. More info...

Detailed Instructions for Your eReader:

After you download an eBook to your computer, you can transfer it to a compatible portable device.

  • Plug your device into your computer
  • Look for the device icon in the left hand menu in Adobe Digital Editions
  • Drag the eBook title to the icon.
  • On the Nook touch screen select My Documents
  • Select the book to begin reading.
