Request Materials that the Library Does Not Own
If you can't find what you're looking for in the Library Catalog, you can:
Borrow the title from another library:
- Use JerseyCat from your home computer to request that the library borrow the item(s) from another library; (instructions)
Submit a Request that The Library purchase your materials:
- Request for Books,
- Request for Videogames,
- Request for Music CDs or Audiobooks (Music CDs or Audiobooks)

JerseyCat Interlibrary Loan
Borrowing books from other libraries is called an Interlibrary Loan, or ILL for short! You can now do this yourself, from your own home, with JerseyCat. You can use our printable Guide to JerseyCat for all of the details. (Adobe Reader required) or follow the directions below. This service is limited to East Brunswick Public Library cardholders only.
Please note: Before requesting any item through JerseyCat, please check the library catalog to see if the library owns the item you want.
You may request a maximum of 5 items per day that this library does not own.
JerseyCat Instructions:
- Click on JerseyCat.
- At the JerseyCat login screen, click Begin.
- Click on Advanced Search on top blue toolbar.
- In the Search For box(es), enter a title, author, subject or keywords, by clicking the drop-down menus. Then, click the gray
box.
Example

- Next, you will see a list of many libraries. Scroll way down until you see each library listed separately and its holdings. Choose a library to borrow the item from by clicking on the blue title under the library name. Be sure to choose the correct form, such as a book or video. A holding record will now display.
- Click on the gray button,
on top right. This will take a few minutes. - An ILL Request Form will pop up. You will need to fill in these fields:
- Patron Name;
- Create a Password;
- Library Card Number (the 2934… number on the back of your library card); and
- Phone.
- Click
button at the top of the page. Next, you will see a message
"Your Library Loan request (ex. 123456) has been submitted. You will receive notification by email or regular mail when your item(s) arrive. All borrowed items are picked up at the Circulation Desk at the library
To Check on the Status of Your Requests:
Follow the first five steps on the previous page. - Click Patron Menu tab at the top of the screen.

- Choose ILL Request Tracking from the drop-down menu.
- Enter your name and password.
- A complete summary will appear on your screen.
Borrowing Limits
- You may borrow books for 3 weeks
- Media materials (DVDs, CDs, ...) circulate for 2 weeks

Request for Materials Forms
If you are looking for books that are not listed in the Library Catalog, you may also use our online Request for Books, Request for Media Materials, or the Request for Music CDs or Audiobooks forms to request that the library purchase them. The library will either purchase the materials or borrow them from another library for you (see ILL or Interlibrary Loan description above) depending upon date of publication, availability, and the price of the item(s). This service is limited to East Brunswick Public Library cardholders.
