East Brunswick Roots Project: PUERTO RICO

Posted September 16, 2014

Explore the history of Puerto Rico during the next East Brunswick Roots Project. Thursday, Oct. 9 * 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Our next East Brunswick Roots Project will explore the political structure of Puerto Rico within a historical context, discussing questions and issues on P.R. citizens' rights and addressing whether statehood is in the best interests of Puerto Rico and/or the U.S.

Later, on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m., explore the “Nuyorican Origins of Salsa,” with a talk and performance by the José Obando Salsa Trio. This free performance will focus on the origins of salsa among New York’s East Puerto Rican immigrants.

These programs are made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the East Brunswick Arts Commission and the Friends of the Library.
