Travel Books Online

Fodor’s

This online version of the popular Fodor's Guides doesn't come close to offering the amount of information and destinations that are available in their print editions, however it does a handy starting point for the more than 200 destinations that it does cover. You can create custom mini guides for locations, and search their massive database of hotels, B&Bs, and restaurants. It links to Expedia.com and Lowestfare.com for booking airline tickets, hotels, cruises, car rentals, vacation packages and more. A very useful feature is the online discussion forums for connecting with other travelers.

Frommer’s

Let’s Go

Another budget travel site based on the print publications that have been around for 40 or so years. It seems to function mainly as an advertisement to their print publications, but it does offer some excellent links by topic and travel bulletin boards.

Lonely Planet

According to their FAQ, "Lonely Planet is known worldwide for publishing practical, reliable and no-nonsense travel information." Their Worldguide takes you to their destination profiles which will update you on major cities and almost every country in the world. It is very nicely organized and easy to use. It also has Theme Guides for "those who know what they like but don't know where they're going." Click on the thorn tree for their discussion forum to talk to fellow travelers. And much more. Very easy and comfortable to use.
