CONCERT: Harper's Escape at the Library

CONCERT: Harper's Escape at the Library
Irish harp players from the U.S., Ireland and Scotland will perform at the Library. Sunday, October 6 • 1:30 p.m.

More than two dozen harpers from the United States, Ireland and Scotland will perform at the East Brunswick Public Library as part of the annual Harpers’ Escape held in New Brunswick. This wonderful event is sponsored by You Gotta Have Harp Productions.

Celebrating Negro League Baseball
Don’t miss the rare opportunity to hear pitcher Bob Scott, a veteran of the Negro Baseball League, talk about his experiences in this historic league. Thursday, October 3 • 7 p.m.

Scholar Lawrence Hogan examines in depth the rich relationships that comprised “Blackball” during America’s era of segregation. The presentation includes exhibit materials and documentary video clips. A question-and-answer period follows.

View and discuss the mini-lecture by Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, from the archives of TED: Ideas Worth Spreading. The founder of Peace One Day advocates for one day of global peace where kids “who’ve known only war can learn what peace looks like, sounds like.”

After viewing the clip, there will be a moderated casual discussion on the topic over lunch (bring your own) at Noon and dessert (provided by The Friends of The Library) at 7 p.m. Open to adults and teens. Backpack Safety Workshop with Ken Freedman, DC
Includes personalized backpack evaluation and fitting Thursday, September 12 • 7 p.m.

Backpack-related injuries are responsible for more than 7000 emergency room visits per year. Ken Freedman, a certified Backpack Safety America instructor, will share backpack safety strategies. Attendees are invited to bring their fully-loaded backpacks and have a personalized backpack evaluation and fitting at no charge. Students under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by the Library’s Just for the Health of It! initiative.
