Heroes Of The Holocaust
View the film “Defiance,” the story of Asael, Tuvia and Zus Bielski who saved more than 1,000 Jews during the Holocaust
Sunday, June 7th from 2 to 5 p.m.
During World War II, Asael, Tuvia and Zus Bielski saved 1,200 Jewish men, women in children from dying in the Holocaust by hiding them in the dense forests of Poland. Learn more about their story during a showing of “Defiance,” an American film released in 2008, on Sunday, June 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library. Directed by Ed Zwick, the film tells the true story of the brothers Bielski. Following the film, listen to the story of Molly Kaplan, whose mother was saved by the Bielski brothers. Trustee Recognized for Excellence

Trustee Recognized for Excellence
Professor Angus Kress Gillespie was recognized by Rutgers University for Distinguished contributions to Undergraduate Education
Angus Kress Gillespie is more than just a member of the East Brunswick Library Board of Trustees. As a distinguished member of the Rutgers University staff, Dr. Gillespie was recognized by Rutgers University for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Education at a ceremony hosted by Executive Dean Douglas Greenberg on May 5. The ceremony was held at the Geology Museum on the historic Old Queens Campus.

Dean Greenberg praised Professor Gillespie as a scholar and teacher with expertise in folk culture, Jerseyana, maritime culture, the American South, the Twin Towers, U.S.- Philippine relations, Gulf Wars 1 and 2 and more.  Dr. Gillespie, a professor in the American Studies Department, was hailed as an instructor who carefully crafts his classes to give students a thorough historical and cultural explanation of a topic. His teaching is all about listening, questioning and being responsive. Dean Greenberg said Dr. Gillespie is a dynamic lecturer who fills his classes with a broad-stroke of historical panoramas with close attention to anecdote and detail. Dr. Gillespie also works to produce the New Jersey Folk Festival, a major contribution to the University and the State. The festival is the largest student-run multi-arts folk festival in North America.

So You Want to Write a Book

Learn the tricks of writing, self-publishing and marketing your own book
Whether you’re looking to write the next great American novel or just tell your own story, you’ll be sure to enjoy author Manny Luftglass’s free presentation “So You Want to Write a Book,” on Tuesday, May 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library. Mr. Luftglass, a former mayor of Somerville, will provide details on subjects such as writing, self-publishing, marketing as well as how to get a book published by a University Press. Mr. Luftglass is a feature writer and the author of 18 published books. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Find out what’s hot and what’s not in the collectibles market, meet some friends and have some fun during “What’s It Worth?” on Sunday, May 31, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library. Think you have a treasure hidden away in the attic? Come find out for sure with professional appraiser Joseph Bodnar and colleagues during an exciting afternoon during which you’ll learn how to get the best price for your collectibles.Attendance is free, but tickets for appraisals are $5, which includes two items (no weapons please). Appraisal tickets, limited to 100, are currently on sale at the Circulation Desk.
