Computer training at The Library
Sign up now for the library’s latest computer class offerings. Start at the beginning with basics and work your way up to more advanced subjects.

Classes are two hours long and limited to 12 students per class. Classes for the end of February and March include:

Registration is required. There is a $5 fee for cardholders and a $10 fee for non-cardholders. Fees will be added to a cardholder’s account and paid for at the Circulation desk. Non-cardholders must pay at the time of registration. Register at the Library or by clicking on the link for each class above (cardholders only).

Learn the tango and other dance favorites during Tango & Chocolate at the East Brunswick Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m.

You’ll feel like a contestant on Dancing With the Stars when you meet with instructors from Dance Time Productions for a delightful evening of dance instruction. There will be lots of fun and an assortment of delectable desserts including, of course, chocolate.  A limited number of tickets are on sale at Circulation for $15. EBTV Channel 3 has a full slate of East Brunswick High School Sports on tap this winter. Catch all the action as the East Brunswick Bears take on their rivals in boys and girls basketball and wrestling. Watch individual games, or spend a day watching a high school sports marathon. Defensive Driving Course In February

Defensive Driving Course In February
Motorists can be eligible for a 2-point reduction or 5% insurance discount
Dates are Monday, February 1st and Tuesday, February 2nd from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Come register for the popular Defensive Driving Course, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The two-day course will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, and Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library. Registration is required and seating is limited to 30 people. 

Eligible motorists can erase two points from their driver’s license and/or get a five percent discount on a portion of their auto insurance. Participants must attend two consecutive evenings for credit. Course costs vary according to goal: for a 2 point reduction on your license, $65, for an insurance discount, $55.  For both, the cost is $65. Attendance is mandatory and refunds cannot be given for partial attendance. Applications are available at the Circulation desk or online.

Approved by the State of New Jersey, the course is taught by an experienced police detective-accident investigator. Talk about Carlyle Floyd’s opera “Susannah”

Thursday January 28th at 7 p.m.

Get ready for a performance of Carlyle Floyd’s opera, “Susannah,” by attending a discussion of it at the East Brunswick Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.  Join Arts Commission member Joanna Barouch for a talk about this opera in anticipation of its performance on Sunday, Jan. 31, at Rutgers. A young girl’s innocence, the hypocrisy of a small town, the lust of a man of God, injustice and murderous hatred all meet in this piece. Based on a story from the Book of Daniel and composed during the McCarthy era, “Susannah” was a metaphor for the paranoia of its time.  For information on tickets for the performance call the Recreation Department at 732-390-6797. Ring in the Pan-Asian Lunar New Year at the East Brunswick Public library on Sunday, Jan. 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. and enjoy an afternoon of dance, demonstrations and traditional Asian treats. Whether you are young or old, you will definitely want to come by for an afternoon that will feature a Chinese Yo-Yo demonstration by the Mid-Jersey Chinese School Rutgers Juggling Club; a martial arts demonstration by WuTan USA; a performance by East Brunswick resident Anita Chen who will play piano and violin; and several Chinese folk dances by the Edison Dance Troupe.  You also will enjoy traditional New Year’s treats such as Lucky Candy and authentic Asian snacks and pastries. Experience the Richness of Asian Indian Festivals Through Food, Dance, Music and Film at the East Brunswick Public Library
Saturday, January 23rd from 4 to 9 p.m.

The community is invited to experience the culture, music and food of India during the Festivals of India at the East Brunswick Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 9 p.m. Experience the diversity of Indian festivals through music and beautiful costumes, and sample some of its delicious cuisine. Stop by and learn more about this fascinating country and have a day you won’t soon forget. 

The Festivals of India continue at the East Brunswick Public Library with an original feature film from the country. Stop by on Tuesday, Jan. 26, for one of two showings of the 2004 Indian film, Morning Raga. This unrated feature film follows three villagers in South India who are drawn together by heartbreak and healed by music. This independent film is directed by Indian playwright and actor, Mahesh Dattani and stars Shabana Azmi. “Morning Raga” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.

My Life in Pink & GreenJoin the author behind the adventures of My Life in Pink and Green, during an early morning brunch with  Lisa Greenwald on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at the East Brunswick Public Library. In her novel, Ms. Greenwald tells the story of 12-year-old Lucy as she tries to save the small-town Connecticut pharmacy owned and run by her mother and grandmother from foreclosure. Come by and talk to Ms. Greenwald about Lucy, makeup, makeovers and adolescent angst. This program includes breakfast, door prizes and a book signing.

Tickets for this special event are available at the Circulation Desk:  children’s tickets, $5; adult tickets are $10 for Friends members; $12 for non-members.  The program is for children ages 9 and up with an adult.  Attendees are to enter through the Library’s side door (near the Senior Center) as the program starts before Library hours on Sunday.

Need a good magazine to cozy up to during those cold winter days and nights? The Library never lets you down.

The Annual Magazine Sale will run from Thursday, January 6 through Wednesday, January 12 and will include magazines from 2009 and 2010.  Magazines will be for sale all hours that the library is open and will cost $3 - 5  per packet of 6 -12 magazines.  Tables will be set up at the front entrance with bundles of magazines to satisfy even the most discriminating reader’s palette.   You’ll find bundles labeled Home, Business, Health, Science, Technology, Fashion, Sports, Cooking, and Hobbies

New Jersey isn’t  just the “bada bing” setting of the television show “The Sopranos.” Just ask author Marc Mappen, who will discuss his novel, “There’s More to New jersey Than the Sopranos,” on Wednesday Jan. 20, from 7 to 8 pm. at the East Brunswick Public Library. In a state that saw the explosion of the USS Princeton, a fake Martian invasion, and the invention of the phonograph, electric light and movies, Mr. Mappen will help locals and visitors learn exactly what makes New Jersey special.
