MIDDLESEX WATER COMPANY ADVISES CUSTOMERS TO BOIL WATER PRIOR TO DRINKING

MIDDLESEX WATER COMPANY ADVISES CUSTOMERS TO BOIL WATER PRIOR TO DRINKING

The Company’s treatment plant experienced minor flooding as a result of heavy rains from last night’s storm which may have impacted the treatment process. While the Company awaits the results of tests taken on its water supply, it is recommending customers boil all water used for consumption purposes for a period of 1 minute before drinking over the next 48 hours.  Periodic updates may be obtained on the Company’s website homepage at www.middlesexwater.com under the blue box for water emergencies or by calling 732-634-1500.

Performers take a Jersey-style look at life at the Library

Performers take a Jersey-style look at life at the Library
Thursday, March 25th from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

No topic is safe when writers and performers Laurie Granieri and Tammy Paolino take a Jersey-style look at life. Come by the East Brunswick Public Library on Thursday, March 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. when these award-winning former Home News-Tribune columnists serve up a mix of straight-ahead poetry and short fiction, delivering nervy and thoughtful observations on just about everything: husbands, ex-husbands, babies, insomnia, broken appliances and broken relationships. Watch as these women talk about it all with that trademark Jersey blend of biting humor and compassion. Stay around after the show for an “open mic” session sponsored by the Raritan Poets.  Sponsored by the Raritan Poets and The Library.

The Library prepares for a flat budget

The Library prepares for a flat budget
Cuts in hours, staff and services will result

Beginning Saturday, March 13th, The Library cut hours of  operation on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings.  New hours close the library at 5:00 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays, instead of the former 9:00 pm closing.  In addition, The Library will be closed completely on the following holidays:  Good Friday,  Election Day, Veterans Day and the day after Thanksgiving.  These measures are necessitated by a substantial reduction of municipal appropriations in the library’s 2010 proposed budget.

Elaine Lee Kessler, President of the Board of Trustees at the East Brunswick Library, responded to the service cuts with this statement: “We are living in challenging economic times and the residents of East Brunswick understand that difficult decisions must be made to keep costs down and still enjoy a high level of service.  The Library will continue to offer the best service to our customers all the hours that we are open.”

Questions regarding the impact of the budget cuts can be directed to MaryEllen Firestone, Library Director at 732-390-6761.
