About This Book

Her magic feeds on lies.
His magic could destroy her.

Mira Kyler runs the court of Virdei from the shadows. Ever since she helped her half-brother Luc take the throne, she's used her lie-powered magic to blackmail members of the elite and secure his leadership.

But newcomer Kaidren Vale is after the throne and Mira fears it will be his for the taking. Kaidren has magic that can detect the nature of someone's magic with a single touch, and if he so much as brushes against her, he will discover that Mira has been manipulating the court for years.

As Kaidren and Luc compete in a series of deadly trials, Mira decides she's done hiding in the shadows. She wants the throne for herself and she'll betray them both to get it. But will she be able to resist the one boy who could destroy everything?

Through lies gains power

In “To Steal a Throne" by Gabi Burton, it has a fresh new take on power scaling: lies are used to power the magic. Mira is the true ruler of the Republic of Virdei while her brother sits on the throne. Known as the shadow queen, Mira uses her power of lies to manipulate all political affairs so that no threat can stand against her. An unexpected challenger off the throne whose name is Kaidren has the exact counter to Mira's power. By true romance novel fashion, he is the love interest of Mira and conveniently he can sense the power of another sorcerer simply by touching them. The story is action packed, fast paced, it is really hard to keep up sometimes, the world building is very beautiful and some scenes are described to be very memorable but the times readers spend on those pages are just so little that all the details and secrets that the scenery hides are not yet explored. The characters are all very unique but another problem is that due to the fact that this book has 2 major secondary main characters, the story sometimes shifts out of focus. Due to these reasons, I’d give this book 3-4 stars out 5. It is very likely that a person who enjoyed the other works of this author would also enjoy this book but there are definitely more well executed main character relationships out there.
