The East Brunswick Library Hosts Kaplan College Admission Seminar on August 13

Attendees will receive free tools that will benefit them throughout the college admissions process
Do you know what it takes to get into the college of your choice? Are you frustrated and confused about the college admission policies? Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions will hold a free college admissions seminar, Accepted! Getting into your Top Choice School, on Wednesday, August 13 at 7pm. Registration is required. This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

During the Accepted! seminar, Kaplan experts will discuss what college admissions officers are looking for in applicants’ high school records.  In addition, families will review key admissions terms, questions to consider when choosing a college and go over the latest hot topics in college admissions. 

Attendees will receive tools that will benefit them throughout the college admissions process. Each attendee will receive a free copy of  Kaplan 2008 Newsweek - Guide to College, as well as be enrolled in Kaplan’s FREE online study tool, SAT or ACT Quizbank.  www.kaptest.com/quizbank Books and other study tool will be given away throughout the presentation.

Annual Entertainment Book Fundraiser to Aid the Friends of the Library

Monmouth County and Middlesex County Books are now available for sale at the check-out desk
Monmouth County and Middlesex County Entertainment Books are due to arrive at the Library the first week of August. Reasonably priced at $25, they are ready for use immediately and contain a vast amount of coupons and savings from local and national merchants.

Those interested in books other than Monmouth or Middlesex can order them direct from www.entertainment.com. Please give the Friends Group ID # 167829 when ordering so that the sale may be credited to them.

 Each year, the Friends sell Entertainment Books as part of their annual Friends fundraiser. Money raised by this fundraiser goes to support the East Brunswick Library in the form of programming, equipment and other improvements made for the benefit of the community at large.

Become more environmentally responsible and get tips on going “green” from the Indian Cultural Society of East Brunswick, PSEG and Home Depot
Are you trying to reduce your carbon footprint and become more environmentally responsible? Join the East Brunswick Library in partnership with the Indian Cultural Society of East Brunswick on Saturday, July 19, at 10:00 am as they hold a brainstorming meeting on the incentives and strategies of environmentally sound living at the Gazebo, next to the pond at the East Brunswick Municipal Complex. Rain location will be The Library. This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

No matter where you stand on the environment, join us for an engaging and interactive discussion with experts from the East Brunswick Environmental Commission, Keep Middlesex Moving, and more on issues that bind us together: energy conservation, waste management, tree care, fuel costs and transportation subsidies, and solar panels. PSEG and Home Depot will also be on hand to provide demonstrations on how to “green” your home.

Landscape Art, LEGOs and Floral Design
Elena Lobovikova, Artist
An architect by profession, Elena Lobovikova considers art and painting her hobby. According to Elena “Nature is an ideal perfection.” Her exhibit, “Four seasons of the Year,” captures the wonderful colors and expressions of nature in rich pastels. Located on the walls throughout the Library, her beautifully-expressive artwork is matted, framed, and available for sale. Please inquire at the information desk for prices and availability.

The East Brunswick Garden Club, Floral Design
The East Brunswick Garden Club presents their artfully-designed floral displays in their exhibit “Red, White and Bloom” located in the display case at the front of the Library. The exhibit also features educational information, such as “Designing for Independence: A History of Floral Design in Early America.” There are also brochures with membership information available for anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the garden club.

Viraj Desai, LEGOs Display
9-Year-Old East Brunswick Viraj Desai’s exciting and intricate LEGO creations are featured in the main display case located in Youth Services. Although he counts sports and computer games as his hobbies, his favorite hobby by far is building LEGO creations. According to Viraj, “LEGOs are great to do any day, whether is sunny or raining outside. I really love building LEGOs!”

Don’t forget that you too can impress us with your original LEGO creations at the LEGO Mania Design Event on July 28 at 10:30 am. Registration is required, and judges will award prizes. For more information, please contact Youth Services.
