Join Susan Rose, a vegetarian for 35 years, and learn how a vegetarian lifestyle is about more than what you eat, it’s about better health and creating an enhanced sense of well being. Learn how a vegetarian diet is not only good for you, but for the planet. Stay until the end of this free event for a few moments of meditation.
Jazz, Funk and Fusion
Join Andy Rothstein and his band for a night of great music at the East Brunswick Public Library Saturday, September 12th at 7 p.m.
Take some Stevie Ray Vaughn, add some Pat Martino and throw in a bit of “The Edge” from U2 and you’ll have an accurate description of guitarist Andy Rothstein. Join him and his band on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library as they play classic tunes as well as original material. Andy has studied with jazz greats Steve Khan, Kevin Eubanks and Ted Dunbar and his music has been described as contemporary jazz, funk and fusion. He and his band, Chris Bacas (saxophone), Steve Jankowski (trumpet), Tony Senatore (bass) and Karl Latham (drums) are sure to put on a performance that keeps your toes tapping.

Come register for the popular Defensive Driving Course, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The two-day course will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, and Tuesday, Oct. 6, or Monday, Dec. 14, and Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the East Brunswick Public Library. Registration is required and seating is limited to 30 people.
Eligible motorists can erase two points from their driver’s license and/or get a five percent discount on a portion of their auto insurance. Participants must attend two consecutive evenings for credit. Course costs vary according to goal: for a 2 point reduction on your license, $65, for an insurance discount, $55. For both, the cost is $65. Attendance is mandatory and refunds cannot be given for partial attendance. Applications for the October session are available at the Circulation desk or online.
Approved by the State of New Jersey, the course is taught by an experienced police detective-accident investigator. On Thursday, Oct. 8, Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil will share tips on how to rekindle romance during a tough economy. A frequent guest on “Oprah!,” Dr. Bonnie will share some easy-to-learn techniques regarding love, sex and money during these stressful and challenging times.
The Fall International Film Festival will continue at the East Brunswick Public Library in October and run through early December with three films from around the globe -- “Jellyfish,” an Israel-Hebrew piece released in 2007; “A Thousand Years of Good Prayers,” a USA-Mandarin/English/Farsi film released in 2008; and “Tulpan,” a Kazakhstan-Kazakh/Russian piece released in 2008. All features will be shown twice, once at 1:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. at the Library. Each film is free.
Find out where the big fish are hiding when angler and author Manny Luftglass shares his “fishing tales” from around the state on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 7 to 8 p.m. The author of 14 books about fishing, Mr. Luftglass will talk about fishing in the Spruce Run and Round Valley reservoirs, Lake Hopatcong, and saltwater hot spots and styles.
You’ll want to get up and dance when StarFish! hits the stage on Saturday, Oct. 24. These five seasoned musicians were raised on classic rock, but they also know a thing or two about how to get music fans of all ages grooving. Fathers by day, StarFish! plans to raise the roof during this family friendly and interactive performance.

Come to the East Brunswick Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. and watch as David Schlossberg, Joan Ananio and Julie Stevens combine their talents for a evening of Broadway classics, interpretations of operatic works, renditions of jazz standards and more. The three have all performed separately at the Library and brought the house down each time. The Birth of Summer Theatre -- 50th Anniversary Celebration
EBTV to broadcast tribute to founder Elliot Taubenslag and Children’s Summer Theatre throughout August
Watch how a summer tradition was born when EBTV 3 televises “The Amazing Mr. T,” throughout August. This documentary celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Children’s Summer Theatre and its founder, Elliot Taubenslag. The video, produced by Maureen Mershon, an alumni of Children’s Summer Theatre, will be broadcast Thursdays, Aug. 13 to 27 at 9 p.m.; Saturdays, Aug. 15 to 29 at noon; and Sundays, Aug. 16 to 30 at 5:30 p.m.
In addition, performances of this year’s Summer Theater session will be broadcast on EBTV 3 throughout August as follows: “Jack & the Beanstalk,” Aug. 1 and Aug. 2; “3 Stooges Meet the Wicked Wizard,” Aug. 7, 8 and 9; “Cinderella,” Aug. 14, 15 and 16; and “Alumni Cinderella,” Aug. 21, 22 and 23. All performances are at 4 p.m.
