Defensive Driving Erase points and save money on insurance! NJ-Approved class taught by experienced police detective/accident investigator. June 27 and June 28 6:30PM - 10PM
Registration is closed!

Participants must attend two consecutive evenings for credit. Course costs vary according to goal: $65 for a 2-point reduction on license and 5% insurance discount or $55 for just a 5% insurance discount. Application forms are available at the Circulation Desk or downloadable here. Checks should be made payable to E.B. Friends of the Library. This award-winning film depicts the founding of Facebook, the most successful social networking site on the Internet.  Based on Ben Mezrich’s book, The Accidental Billionaires, it stars East Brunswick hometown favorite Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield. You don’t need to be computer savvy to appreciate this compelling tale of genius, money, friendship and betrayal.

The June computer training schedule has been published and included something for everyone.  Offered this month will be a number of our beginner classes, an array of the Microsoft Office Suite classes, Picture Perfect, our class on online photo editing and sharing, as well as repeats of the Introduction to QuickBooks and our popular class on Downloading eBooks.

Introduction to QuickBooks, Level 1

A  new three part introductory series to the popular small business financial software begins with this course offered on Saturday, June18th.  [Dates for Levels 2 and 3 have not ye4t been finalized, but will be offered on Saturdays in July/August.]

These classes are designed for individuals who are just starting out with QuickBooks and have a working knowledge of the Windows environment. QuickBooks, Level 1 will introduce users to the interface, show how to set up a company’s QuickBooks, and how to begin to add and work with customers, vendors, accounts and inventory. QuickBooks, Level 2 will include working with your accounts, recording sales information, handling payments, and, time permitting, entering and paying bills. QuickBooks, Level 3, the final course in the series, will cover payroll basics, handling sales tax, customizing QuickBook forms, and using reports in QuickBooks. The fee for each course is $50. Advance registration and prepayment is required. See the event in the calendar for the specifics on registration and cancellation.

People who like to read on the go might want to check out our class on how to download eBooks and Audiobooks. Learn how to download free books from The Library’s growing collection and other free resources to your Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Droid phone. Please note that the Kindle ereader is not compatible with library ebooks due to the manufacturer’s restrictions.
 

Classes for June include:

All courses are offered using the latest Microsoft software - Windows 7 and Office 2010.

Registration is required. All registrants should look at the class offerings carefully to insure that they have the necessary skills for each class. Most classes are two hours long and limited to 12 students per class.

Fees

There is a $5 fee for cardholders and a $10 fee for non-cardholders. Fees will be added to a cardholder’s account and paid for at the Circulation desk. [This does not apply to the QuickBooks classes. See each event in the calendar for details.]

Meet explorers, learn about our Colonial and Revolutionary history, and celebrate everything that makes New Jersey special during this terrific presentation.

The Library Catalog Will Be Down For Scheduled Maintenance on Wednesday, May 18th

The Library Catalog will be unavailable from 8 a.m. until sometime in the mid to late afternoon on Wednesday, May 18th due to scheduled maintenance.  We regret any inconvenience this may cause.  Users will not be able to search for or renew materials online during that time, nor will they be able to log in to the library website.  Overdue fines will NOT be assessed during this time.

The Jewish Choir of Central NJ will perform the exciting and variety music of today's Jewish Music. Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m.

Visit the East Brunswick Public Library for a great performance by Makhelat Hamercaz, Jewish Choir of Central NJ on Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m. Back by popular demand, the group will focus on the exciting and varied Jewish music of today while also performing some serious and comedic selections.  Under the direction of cantors Anna West Ott and Sheldon Levin, the show is one that is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of young and old alike. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

The Friends Annual Community Yard Sale is Saturday, May 14. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Find a bargain or a hidden treasure at the Friends’ Community Yard Sale on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Brunswick High School on Cranbury Road. Proceeds raised through the sale of spots for vendors will support wonderful Library programs such as the Teen Learning Connection, the annual puppetry festival, film festivals, the book club, music and dance programs and so much more. So if you want to find some great deals and want to help a good cause then make sure you hit the largest yard Sale in the area.

Sign up for a course that will show you how to download books to your eReader and mobile devices. Monday, May 9, 7-9 p.m.

Learn how to download free ebooks and downloadable audiobooks from the East Brunswick Public Library’s growing collection and other free resources online. Register now for the Library’s next ebook and audiobook class to be held on Monday, May 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. and learn how to transfer ebooks to some of the major ereader devices including the Barnes and Noble Nook and Sony Reader. Find out how you can listen to audiobooks on many of the most popular mobile devices like the iPhone, iPod, Blackberry and Android phones. 

NOTE: Due to software restrictions attendees will not be able to transfer downloadable books to the devices inside the Library. The instructor will demonstrate the steps and attendees will receive printed instructions for following the directions on their home computer.

Registration is required. A $5 late fee will be charged if participants cancel without 24 hour notice. Register at the Library or by visiting www.ebpl.org.
 
Prerequisites: Basic internet skills.
