March Computer Training at the Library

March Computer Training at the Library

Posted February 13, 2013

Get the computer training you need at the Library and update your skills this month. Register now for the East Brunswick Public Library’s latest computer class offerings.

The computer training schedule for March has now been published. The training schedule will focus on the Microsoft Office Suite for users who already have basic skills. We will be offering four levels of Microsoft Word, four levels of Excel and PowerPoint III.  For those users who have just recently upgraded to Office 2010 we are also offering the Introduction to the New MS Office class taht gives an overview of all of the newer features in the Office Suite.

We are also offering classe for beginners with the PC Literacy series.  PC Literacy I and II will be offered on Wednesday afternoons during the month.

March Schedule:

All courses are offered using the latest Microsoft software - Windows 7 and Office 2010. Registration is required. All registrants should look at the class offerings carefully to insure that they have the necessary skills for each class. Most classes are two hours long and limited to 12 students per class.

Fees

There is a $5 fee for cardholders and a $10 fee for non-cardholders. Fees will be added to a cardholder’s account and paid for at the Circulation desk. Register at the Library, by phone or by going to the event in the website Calendar and clicking on the Sign Me Up link. Your library card and PIN numbers will be required. Non-cardholders must pay at the time of registration, i.e. registrations must be in person.

Cancellation Policy

Fees for computer class registrations are NOT refundable, so please be aware that you are making a definite commitment to attend a class when you register.  Managing all of the changes in customer computer class registrations has been a very large job and has required staff hours which the library no longer has. The library would ask that you think of this as a small donation for all of the hours that are put in to running the classes.

If you cannot attend

If you cannot attend a class for which you have registered the Library would ask that as a courtesy to other registrants who may be waitlisted for that class that you call 732-390-6767 to cancel your registration or cancel your registration online so that they might have the opportunity to attend.

Waitlisted registrants

Waitlisted registrants will be notified by email and/or telephone as soon as there is a vacancy in a class. They will have 24 hours to respond to the notification. If they do not respond within that time frame, the next person on the waiting list will be notified. Once a commitment to attend has been made, that registration is subject to the same cancellation policy noted above. They do not pay unless there is a cancellation and they are admitted to the class proper.

Registration Requirements

Please register early.  Registration will be closed 24 hours before the start of a class.  If there are fewer than six people registered at that time the class will be cancelled.  The library will make every effort to run classes as scheduled.  If circumstances dictate that the library must cancel a class, registration fees for those students are refundable.

New Author Alerts Service to replace Best Sellers Club

New Author Alerts Service to replace Best Sellers Club

Posted February 04, 2013

The new service allows users to sign up to be notified via email or SMS text message when titles by their favorite authors or performers are added to the libraries collection!

The East Brunswick Public Library has recently subscribed to an exciting new service called Author Alerts!  Author Alerts allows you to be notified via email or text message as soon as new material from your favorite authors are added to the Library catalog!  It will replace the existing Best Sellers Club, and include several new features.

·         Formats such as music CDs and LARGE PRINT have now been added!  For example, if you like Bruce Springsteen, Author Alerts will notify you when his new CD has been ordered.
·         You are not limited to 10 authors, as was the case with the Best Sellers Club!  Author Alerts lets you choose an unlimited number of authors and artists.

So how do you get started?

The Library has migrated existing Best Sellers Club members over to Author Alerts.  Go to the Library’s website www.ebpl.org.  Click on the pink Author Alerts box in the bottom right hand corner of the page which will take you directly to the Author Alerts service.  You can also reach the service by clicking on the Author Alerts tab in the library catalog.  Once you are on the AuthorAlerts page, smply click the “Start Here” button to get started.

So that’s it!  The Best Sellers Club will still provide the same great service; Author Alerts will only enhance your club experience.

A detailed instructional page that will walk you through Author Alerts can be found by visiting  http://www.ebpl.org/main/AuthorAlerts.cfm
