EBTV Wins Awards at JAM Video Festival

Posted December 11, 2015

On Wednesday, December 9, the Jersey Access Group [JAG] held its annual JAM Video Awards Dinner at the Spain Inn in Piscataway, NJ. Three programs created by East Brunswick Television [EBTV] were awarded top honors, as well as honorable mention for a fourth.

The Jersey Access Group [JAG] was founded in 2000 and supports and develops Public, Education, and Government (PEG) cable access stations throughout New Jersey

Professor Angus Kress Gillespie, Professor of American Studies at Rutgers University, won the Diversity Programming category for his program, “Old Ways in N.J.” which focused on the St. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in South River, NJ.

Ken Freedman, DC, host of “Wellness Spotlight,” won the Talk Show: Informational category for his program “A Discussion on Fluoride,” about the controversial topic of fluoride in the public water supply. Since its airing in May 2015, this program has had over 7,800 views on EBTV’s Video on Demand and YouTube channels.

New to the EBTV lineup is artist Lucy Aita who won the Instructional Programming category for her series, “Lucy’s Big Beautiful World of Painting,” which also airs on ten other stations from New Jersey to Maine.

“This Week in East Brunswick,” EBTV’s weekly news magazine program which highlights the East Brunswick community, received honorable mention in the News and Magazine Format category for work featuring reporter and host Barbara Reiss.

EBTV is available on www.ebtv.org and YouTube.

EBPL Launches Awesome Box

EBPL Launches Awesome Box

Posted December 08, 2015

The East Brunswick Public Library (EBPL) unveiled a new book drop on Saturday, December 5 – the Awesome Box! Not just any book drop, the EBPL Awesome Box is designed to give patrons a way to share what awesome things they found at the library. Learn more

Using the box is easy – just use this box to return any items you’ve checked out from EBPL and loved. Discover a new author? Fell in love with a classic? Tried a new series that you can’t get enough of? Return it to the Awesome Box so we know to tell everyone about it! Lowe’s Home Improvement of East Brunswick generously built and donated the box for the community to enjoy.

The Awesome Box is a way to open a dialogue with the East Brunswick community about the books, movies and music they have found at the library and enjoyed. Kids, teens and adults can all participate, and EBPL staff will be displaying favorites along with the box, which will be located next to the circulation desk.

East Brunswick has great taste and loves sharing - EBPL staff is always hearing what patrons liked reading, watching and listening to. What better way to celebrate that by giving patrons a new way to tell us - and their community - what they enjoyed?

The Awesome Box is the latest in a series of initiatives and events to celebrate our community’s love of reading. EBPL also offers match+book, customized reading suggestions at www.ebpl.org/match, “Read This Book” video book reviews that share staff and patron favorites, and the popular monthly book and story discussion groups.
