Getting a Life with Asperger’s: Lessons Learned on the Bumpy Road to Adulthood”
The East Brunswick Public Library welcomes author and autism advocate, Jesse A. Saperstein on Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
Jesse will share the wisdom he has gained during his 32 years of living on the autism spectrum. These learning experiences are compiled in his second book, Getting a Life with Asperger’s: Lessons Learned on the Bumpy Road to Adulthood, which was published last August. Jesse is also the author of the best-selling memoir, Atypical: Life with Asperger’s in 20 1/3 Chapters.

The Jews of Poland, pre-WWII
This program of music and lectures is presented by Glenn Dynner, Ph.D.; Tamara Reps Freeman, Ph.D., viola; Michael G. Kesler, Ph.D., voice; and Ed Goldberg, piano. The Jews of Poland represented one of the oldest and certainly by far the largest Jewish communities in Europe.
Arriving in the late 14th century at the invitation of King Kazimierz the Great, they constituted an important cornerstone of the King’s program to revitalize Polish urban life. In time, they became partners with the Polish nobility in their conquest, with Lithuania, of the Ukraine. With Poland impoverished by wars with the Swedes in the north, and with the defense of Central Europe against the Ottomans, anti-Semitism undermined the Jewish-Polish symbiotic relationship. The Jews grew in number and wealth, despite the constant persecution and their population reached some 3, 300,000 before World War II. Nine out of ten Jews perished in Poland during the war.
The program presented here will deal with the rich cultural, religious, and political tapestry of Jewish life before World War II.

Get Defensive About Your Driving

Get a 5 percent discount on your auto insurance or erase points from you or your teen's driver's license by attending the next two-day East Brunswick Friends of the Library's Defensive Driving Course.
Eligible drivers can erase two points from their driver's license and/or get a five percent discount for three years on a portion of their auto insurance by attending both sessions.
Approved by the State of New Jersey, the course is taught by an experienced police detective-accident investigator. Participants must attend two consecutive evenings for credit. Course costs vary according to goal: for a 2 point reduction on your license, $65; for an insurance discount, $55. For both, the cost is $65.
Attendance is mandatory and refunds cannot be given for partial attendance. Applications are available at the Circulation desk or online. Registration is required and seating is limited to 30 people.

Screenwriting:
The screenwriting workshop is going to be an immersive crash course into telling a story for the screen, starting with crafting a concept and leaving participants ready to begin writing. The focus will be on character-driven narratives that utilize want and conflict as the building blocks of drama. Participants will explore the elements of three-act structure, proper screenwriting formatting and technique, as well as methods to draw inspiration from their own lives. It will be beneficial if students attending the workshop have a strong interest in telling stories, and come to class with an idea they wish to write.
Zack Morrison is an award-winning writer, director, and cinematographer; currently pursuing his Master of Fine Art degree in screenwriting and directing at Columbia University. He has created many short films, both fiction and documentary, that have screened at festivals in New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Cannes. A proud alumnus of Rutgers University, Zack was a key contributor in the development of a new BFA degree program in digital filmmaking at Mason Gross School of the Arts. In 2014, Zack was awarded the "Poo Industries" collegiate Lifetime Achievement Award from Campus Moviefest, the world's largest student film festival. His professional credits include work for the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary You Don't Know Bo and various projects with MTV. Zack graduated from East Brunswick High School in 2010, and is currently writing his first feature film.
Film Composition:
Learn the language of film. This program will cover the basics of shot composition and show you how to turn your ideas into a digital film. Learn how to avoid common mistakes and build a foundation for successful filmmaking.
Paul D'Amico is a digital filmmaker and teacher with a number of network television and film credits.
Final Cut Pro:
The Library is embracing the "maker culture" by creating a new space and giving you toold to bring your creativity to the next level. We have 5 Mac computers with Final Cut Pro X, a non-linear digital editing software so that patrons of all ages can edit and produce their own movie masterpieces. This workshop is designed to introduce beginners on how to use the software. The workshop is limited to 5 people. We have two sessions on March 21st at 12pm and 2pm. Space is limited.
