“We are excited to support our writing community,” said EBPL director Jennifer Podolsky. “The library already hosts writing groups for children, teens, and adults, and by celebrating NaNoWriMo, we hope to encourage authors both budding and veteran to come together and celebrative their creativity.”
NaNoWriMo challenges adults to write a 50,000 word novel between November 1 and November 30. There is also a Young Writers Program for children and teens.
Kicking off NaNoWriMo, the library will host the Central NJ region’s information session on Wednesday, October 19 at 7 pm. Official NaNoWriMo volunteers will be on-hand to explain how the project works and answer any questions. The Youth Services department hosts a kickoff event for kids on Sunday, October 30 at 3 pm.
Weekly Write-In sessions will be held every Monday throughout the month from 6 to 9pm in the group study rooms. These open, drop-in sessions allow writers to work in a quiet space away from home, surrounded by others also taking the challenge. The library has WiFi, outlets, vending machines, comfortable seating and plenty of books to read for inspiration.
EBPL also hosts an author panel entitled “From Book Draft to Book Deal” on Tuesday, November 29 at 7 pm. Authors Melanie Conklin, Val Emmich, Holly Schindler and Chelle Martin will discuss the challenging road to publication. This panel is moderated by local award-winning author Jennifer Salvato Doktorksi, and is free and open to the public. Raffle prizes and a book signing will follow the program.
