Dr. Bill Fernekes will discuss how human rights issues have local, national, and global dimensions. Understanding the perennial tensions in addressing human rights issues and the importance of activism will help us be prepared for protecting the rights of all in the 21st century.
William R. (Bill) Fernekes holds an MA in Latin American history and an Ed.D. in social studies education from Rutgers University. After a career Hunterdon Central Regional HS in Flemington NJ, he now teaches courses in social studies education, human rights and education, global education and teacher preparation at Rider University and the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. A dedicated advocate of human rights education and social justice, he served as advisor/co-advisor of the Amnesty International campus chapter at Hunterdon Central Regional High School for 25 years, and he is currently a member of the national steering committee of Human Rights Educators USA.
