East Brunswick Public Library is Under Contstruction!
To better serve the children and families of East Brunswick, we will begin construction to make improvements to the Youth Services department on Monday, November 21. Read More
"The part of the library that serves families has been in desperate need of improvement,” said East Brunswick Mayor Brad J. Cohen. “This construction project addresses several areas, including the family restrooms, lighting and flooring.”
The project should last approximately ten to fourteen weeks, though that may be subject to change. During this time, the Youth Services and Teens area and the Youth Services Programming Room will be closed to the public. There will be limited access to children and teen library materials during this time. Materials and services throughout the rest of the library will remain available.
“One of the missions of the East Brunswick Library Board of Trustees is to ensure that the entire community has access to the most up-to-date facilities that meet the diverse needs of our town’s library patrons. With thoughtful deliberation, we planned for a renovation of our Youth Services Department,” said JoAnn Chmielowicz, East Brunswick Public Library Board of Trustees President. ”Our children’s section is one of the most used and beloved parts of the library, so we are thrilled to be able to give it an update.”
During the construction project, the Youth Services Desk and a smaller collection of kids and teen books will be moved to the center of the library. Programs and events for children and teens will continue during the project but will be held in the Meeting Rooms on the opposite side of the building.
Since the renovations will be taking place during the hours when the library is open, there will be an increased level of noise in the library during this time.
“This update will allow our children to have a space in the library that is welcoming, warm and useful,” Chmielowicz added. “We look forward to the outcomes of this renovation, and we are grateful for the public’s patience as we close temporarily to update the space. Good things are coming!”
