Trustee Recognized for Excellence
Professor Angus Kress Gillespie was recognized by Rutgers University for Distinguished contributions to Undergraduate Education
Angus Kress Gillespie is more than just a member of the East Brunswick Library Board of Trustees. As a distinguished member of the Rutgers University staff, Dr. Gillespie was recognized by Rutgers University for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Education at a ceremony hosted by Executive Dean Douglas Greenberg on May 5. The ceremony was held at the Geology Museum on the historic Old Queens Campus.
Dean Greenberg praised Professor Gillespie as a scholar and teacher with expertise in folk culture, Jerseyana, maritime culture, the American South, the Twin Towers, U.S.- Philippine relations, Gulf Wars 1 and 2 and more. Dr. Gillespie, a professor in the American Studies Department, was hailed as an instructor who carefully crafts his classes to give students a thorough historical and cultural explanation of a topic. His teaching is all about listening, questioning and being responsive. Dean Greenberg said Dr. Gillespie is a dynamic lecturer who fills his classes with a broad-stroke of historical panoramas with close attention to anecdote and detail. Dr. Gillespie also works to produce the New Jersey Folk Festival, a major contribution to the University and the State. The festival is the largest student-run multi-arts folk festival in North America.
