Get Ready For College At East Brunswick Public Library

East Brunswick Public Library offers two programs for college bound students.

East Brunswick Public Library hosts two special programs to help high school students plan for college.

Kaplan Test Prep is holding a practice SAT and ACT test session on Saturday, November 12 at 12:30 pm. Students will have the opportunity to take a fully-proctored paper-and pencil exam to give them experience of being in the actual test environment.  Following the test, results will be available.

The practice test takes approximately four hours. Test takers will need to bring a calculator, two #2 pencils, a fully charged web enabled device or smartphone, a snack and water. Registration for the practice test is required. It must be done online

The library is also hosting a scholarship hunting workshop with Nikki Bruno, educational consultant and president of Student Coaching Services, on Tuesday, November 15 at 7 pm. Topics covered include the different types of scholarships, where to find them and how to increase your chances of receiving one.

During the second half of the program, participants will have time to research and apply for scholarships with Bruno’s assistance. The library will have computers available, but if possible participants should bring their own laptop.

Both programs are free and are geared towards college-bound high school students. A complete list of upcoming library programs for teens can be found here

Two Additions To Museum Pass Program

Two Additions To Museum Pass Program

East Brunswick Public Library is expanding its popular museum pass program. Insectropolis of Toms River, NJ, and the Garden State Discovery Museum of Cherry Hill, NJ, are now included.

East Brunswick Public Library (2 Jean Walling Civic Center) is expanding its popular museum pass program. Insectropolis of Toms River, NJ, and the Garden State Discovery Museum of Cherry Hill, NJ, are now included.

“Since we began our museum pass program, it has been very popular with our patrons,” said Stephanie Filippone, adult services manager. “Thanks to generous support of the Friends of the Library, we were able to add two more museums to the program.”

Insectropolis is a fun and unique insect learning center for all ages. Set within the architecture of a bug-theme city, the displays and hands-on exhibits let you explore the world of insects. No visit is complete without petting one of the residents—a live tarantula, scorpion, millipede and even a hissing cockroach!

The Garden State Discovery Museum is a hands-on celebration of imagination where children can discover a world just their size and adults can share in their discoveries.  Some of the exhibits include a rock climbing wall, building a two-story house and getting inside a gigantic bubble

The other museums that are part of the museum pass program are the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, PA; the Frick Collection in New York, NY; Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ; the Guggenheim Museum in New York, NY; and the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York, NY.

Museum passes can be reserved online by East Brunswick Public Library cardholders (ages 18 and up) who owe fewer than $25 in library fines, fees or lost materials.
