Take A Continuing Education Class With Universal Class
East Brunswick Public Library now offers over 500 free online continuing education courses through Universal Class.
"Our library has been offering instructional classes for years,” said Karen Parry, Information Services Manager. “With Universal Class, we can now offer our customers several courses that we would not have been able to. And, best of all, our customers can take these classes online at their schedule.”
East Brunswick Public Library cardholders can create a free account for Universal Class online. Their valid library card number is necessary to register.
Once registered, library customers can sign up for up to five different classes. Topics range from basic accounting and business skills, to web development and programming, and personal courses like genealogy and organization.
Students have up to six months to finish each course. Each course has flexibly scheduled classes and assignments, as well as access to an instructor for further questions. Courses offered through Universal Class are non-credit and not to be intended as a substitute for licensing or educational requirements.

East Brunswick Public Library Circulates 30,000,000th Item
On February 12, East Brunswick Public Library celebrated an incredible milestone. The library circulated its 30 millionth item.
“This is a huge accomplishment for us,” said Library Director Jennifer Podolsky. “Our customers realize that libraries are more than just books, and stop by to borrow movies, music, video games and even museum passes. They can now borrow digital items from us on their own schedule.”
The library doesn’t know exactly know what book or other item was the 30 millionth item checked out, as the computer circulation system calculates the total number of checkouts at the end of the day. The final count for Saturday was 30,000,225.
To celebrate the occasion, the Friends of the Library held a prize drawing for every customer who checked out an item that day that was won by Michelle Brill of East Brunswick.
“When I moved to East Brunswick in 1983 one of the first places I knew I needed to find was the library,” Brill said. “It wowed me then and continues to impress each time I go. I think it’s the pride of East Brunswick.”
This milestone coincides with the East Brunswick Public Library’s 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated this May.
