International Sensation
Summer International Film Fest continues in August with one of the biggest films of last year as well as a 2006 entry from Brazil. Both films will be shown twice, once at 1:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.

The Summer 2009 International Film Festival will continue at the East Brunswick Public Library in August, with one of the biggest films of last year as well as a 2006 entry from Brazil. Both films will be shown twice, once at 1:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, admission is free. 

“The Year My Parents Went On Vacation” is a Brazilian film released in 2006 and directed by Cao Hamburger. When they go into hiding from the secret police, Mauro’s parents tell him they’re going on vacation and send him to live with his Jewish grandfather. While there, Mauro plays soccer with his new friends and dreams of a Brazilian World Cup  victory in this coming-of-age tale. Rated PG. Showing Tuesday, Aug. 4.
 
“Slumdog Millionaire” is a 2008 UK film directed by Danny Boyle. Jamal Malik, an uneducated street kid, is one question away from wining the jackpot on India’s version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Suspected of cheating, Jamal is arrested and brutally interrogated. In flashbacks, he explains how he knows the answers to the questions and reflects on his childhood in the slums of Mumbai. This international hit won multiple awards in 2009, including an Oscar for Best Picture. Rated R. Showing Tuesday, Aug. 11.
