To begin, the main character is a 17-year-old named Julia Jaynes who is a superhuman, along with her family. From the start, Julia was an outsider from her family but now that she unintentionally puts her family at stake, her father completely isolates her from all her friends and family by sending her to a public high school. Here, she meets John Ford and discovers that she can read his mind. Although the book is in the genre fantasy, I would also categorize it as romance due to John and Julia’s relationship being steadily seen throughout the book. Furthermore, the blurb suggests that there would be a lot of action, but in reality, it is not as much as you would think. In my opinion, the beginning of the book was slow due to the number of descriptions which I believe was a little overdone. But, it was still a great book. Overall the book is about identity, choices, and survival. I recommend this book to anyone, but more to youth, who is looking for a story that has an original plot. I give this book a 3.5/5.
