Tara Goedjen keeps everything shrouded in mystery for the whole book: This ensures that readers won't be able to stop reading. She drags out the suspense, not answering any of the readers growing pile of questions until the end. She does however, drop little clues and hints that allow a reader to create theories and try to predict the ending. As was warranted, the whole story had a bit of a ominous and sinister feel: there really were no reprieves. This could work as a positive or a negative, depending on the opinion of the reader. For me it was a negative. The whole thing was a bit heavy and deep, completely lacking in any lighter moments.
