The book starts off as a somewhat generic mystery novel, however, the format is interesting as it is written from 3 main perspectives: different protagonists. I want to preface that despite me not typically enjoying this genre, the first half of the book was pretty good. Yet, it became too dark, I personally enjoy a darker story or at least what is realistic, but I felt that at times the story was being forced to be dark or too weird/off-putting. I did enjoy the characters though, and I feel that the characters will be a lot more relatable for female readers. Lastly, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending, but that may just be because I’m not a fan of the genre. Overall though, Sawkill Girls is definitely worth a try, and pretty quickly you’ll learn if it’s for you or not: 3/5.
