The rich and prestigious Garrison's were shot to death and then lit on fire in the safety of their protected mansion. The only survivor of the Garrison's, their seventeen year old- Tristan Garrison. Everyone points fingers towards seventeen year old townie, Pearl Haskins father, Wil Haskins. Wil Haskins was the guard on duty at the time of the tragedy. Set a whole year after the event, The Lies They Tell takes readers on an adventure of Pearl Haskins as she befriends Tristan and his two friends, Akil and Spencer in order to uncover what really happened that summer and stop the stares once and for all. But, will this be a decision she could regret for the rest of her life….if she lives?
I would recommend this book as it is a mysterious page turner that keeps you interested till the end. This book establishes strong characters that you can relate to. Pearl Haskins, the sweet low-middle class girl who is facing the effects of a broken family- an alcoholic dad and a unpresent mother. Tristan Garrison, the immensely rich party boy turned into a reserved closed off boy facing the stares of everyone wherever he goes. Akil, the out of place, rich, uncaring boy who has no care in the world after the loss of someone. Spencer, the rich, friendly boy who turns towards a playboy attitude after suffering a huge loss and is willing to take a secret to the grave. Find out what really happened that night but remember, not everything is as it seems, and not everyone is as innocent as you think.
