Gertrude Berg, as Molly, was the creative force behind a ‘Goldbergs’ media empire who became the second most admired woman in the country. (Eleanor Roosevelt was first.) With 1940’s anti-Semitism rampant, US WWII propaganda highlighted her Jewish series as “followed and loved by millions.” She raised millions of dollars selling war bonds and supporting the war effort.
