Stop by the library's ALS Awareness Table May 8-15 in the library lobby as we celebrate ALS Awareness Week. We are creating awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. This is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Roughly 1 in 400 people will develop ALS in their lifetime.
Did you know that every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)? Not only that, but the University of Michigan Medicine reports that 90% of cases occur without any family history of the condition.
