After months in the fetid, overcrowded jail, she learns she is sentenced to 'the land beyond the seas, ' Van Diemen's Land, a penal colony in Australia. Though uncertain of what awaits, Evangeline knows one thing: the child she carries will be born on the months-long voyage to this distant land.

ALS Awareness Week Table

Stop by the library's ALS Awareness Table May 8-15 in the library lobby as we celebrate ALS Awareness Week. We are creating awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.  This is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Roughly 1 in 400 people will develop ALS in their lifetime.
