3D Printer Policy

Purpose

This Policy outlines the proper and safe use of the 3D printer and the procedures for its operation.

Eligibility

Library patrons ages 13 and older may use the East Brunswick Library’s 3D printers to produce physical plastic objects from digital design files.

Acceptable Use

  • Only designated Library Information Technology staff and volunteers are permitted to have hands-on access to the 3D Printers.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, loading/unloading filament, loading/unloading print jobs, and cleaning/maintaining the devices.
  • The East Brunswick Public Library’s 3D Printers may only be used for lawful purposes.
  • Printers may not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection,
  • All users of the 3D Printer must adhere to the Library’s Code of Conduct: https://ilove.ebpl.org/library-code-conduct .
  • Library Information Technology staff reserve the right to refuse to print any item that violates terms of Acceptable Use, as set out in this policy.

Print Requests

  • The East Brunswick Public Library will accept print jobs via email (ebcreate@ebpl.org) during the 1st week of every month.
  • 3D Print Jobs must NOT exceed 6 hours of print time.
  • 3D Print Jobs will be performed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • 3D Print Jobs created during the 3D printing courses provided by the library will take precedence over any 3D prints submitted to staff.
  • The Library is not responsible for any misprints. The Library will only charge for completed prints.
  • Public prints submitted will be performed on the MarkerBot Sketch or the Bambu PS1 Printer.
  • Size limitations are limited to:
    • MakerBot Sketch Printer: All models cannot exceed the size of 150mm x 150mm x 150mm. (5inX5inX5in)
    • Bambu PS1 Printer: All Models cannot exceed the size of 256x256x256mm (10inX10inX10in)

Fees

For purposes of recovering out of pocket costs, the Library will charge patrons $0.15 per gram of filament used to produce the 3D print.

Safety

Patrons of the Library will not be permitted to print items that are:

  • Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
  • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others. (Such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.)
  • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment, as determined by library staff.
  • Items that are deemed to be threatening, offensive, and/or inappropriate in a Library environment, as determined by Library staff.

Completed Prints

  • Finished print jobs will be available for pickup during the fourth week of each month, and staff will notify patrons when their items are ready.
  • Delivery times are subject to change based on volume of requests and availability of Information Technology staff.
