She swooped in, murmured apologies, returned the book, soothed both kids. “I’m... a stay-at-home mom,” she said, brushing hair from her face. It felt true, but not whole. Her mind still burned with ideas, plans paused but not gone. Someday, she’d say more. For now, this mattered most. But the pause? The pause held everything.

Humanity at Stake by Serenity Dash (a Short Story Contest entry)
My people may be facing a war due to recent events. Blood will shed. Soldiers will die. Their families will grieve. Poor people will suffer the most. Religious and political terms will be thrown around a lot. I’ll have to sit quietly in a different country and just take it all in. If you’ve read upto here, do you know what country I am from? What religion I follow? Does it matter? Does it?
"My wonderful old car had seen better days. Right sideview mirror was taped, left taillight was out, muffler had a hole, and inspection was overdue. A state trooper stopped me.
"Sir, your vehicle has several violations." My reply, "I didn't want to spend money, because I'm picking up a new car tomorrow." He laughed then, I presented my sales receipt, the trooper left saying "Enjoy your new car". Yea! No ticket.
