Cat Poetry

Did you know April is National Poetry Month? Anyone can create a poem and after listening to Librarian April read some of her favorite poems about cats, why don't you try to write a few poems yourself? Here are some ideas to get started:

Handwashing Sing-Along

Every Spring, our friends from the Rutgers University student chapter of the American Pharmacists Association visit the library for a special event for families.  They play games, bring craft projects, and teach families about storing and dosing medication safely, preventing poisoning from medications and household products, and how immunizations work.  This Spring, they created a fun infographic for families to use when teaching very young children about washing their hands.  View it here and sing a

Learn 3D Modeling in the DICE club

Have you ever wanted to learn how to design and print objects using a 3D printer? Now is the perfect time to learn. The library is launching a club for kids in grades 3-7 to do just that: the DICE Club! In the DICE Club, short for Design, Innovate, Create, Educate. In the DICE club, our amazing teen volunteer Aditya will teach children how to use the free online software Tinkercad to design their own 3D models that they can later print using the library's brand new 3D printer.

DIY Crafts: Cloth Face Masks

It is easy to make your own cloth face mask. All you need for this project is 100% cotton fabric and either elastic or string to secure the mask to your face. We use a sewing machine to sew the mask in this video but you can hand sew your own mask as well. This design was taken from the New York Times and more information about how to make this mask can be found here: https://www.nytimes.com/article/how-to-make-face-mask-coronavirus.html

DIY Crafts: Newspaper Seed Planters

Now that it is spring, it is a perfect time to start a garden and we have created a video to show you how to make a newspaper seed planter. Not only is this a great way to upcycle old newspaper but once your seeds have sprouted, you can put the entire newspaper planter into the ground or transfer it to a larger pot and it will simply decompose as your plant grows through the summer.
