Juneteenth
Below are books to celebrate Juneteenth, the federal holiday acknowledged annually to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. This momentous day harkens back to June 19, 1865 when U.S. troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce the Emancipation Proclamation to the last enslaved people there. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth is a time to honor Black culture through art, education, and food. Check out a library book today and learn more!
