Cat Poetry

Did you know April is National Poetry Month? Anyone can create a poem and after listening to Librarian April read some of her favorite poems about cats, why don't you try to write a few poems yourself? Here are some ideas to get started:

  • Write an Acrostic poem using your name.  You can use Read, Write, Think.org to create your poem.  Which words best describe you?  Make sure to put them in your poem!
  • You can go here to find the two funny “poem starters” by Jack Prelutsky.  Read them and then finish the poems yourself.  Get creative!
  • For a challenge, click on the link to try writing a haiku poem. It doesn’t have to rhyme, but you must follow these rules: The poem must be 3 lines long.  The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables, and the third has 5 syllables.  Good luck!
