Small Group Study Room Policy

The Small Group Study Rooms are available for groups of two or more people during the library’s normal operating hours.

Proctoring of exams is considered a library service. Exceptions are made for students who pay $25.00 to use the rooms on an individual basis.

Reservations are restricted to East Brunswick library card holders, STELLA consortium members, and students who live in East Brunswick, age 13 or older. Children under the age of 13, even if accompanied by adults, are not permitted.

To reserve a room, you must provide your East Brunswick library card; STELLA consortium library card; or student ID. The card or ID should be in the name of the person reserving the room.

Small Group Study Rooms A and B may be reserved up to two weeks in advance.

Small Group Study Room C may only be reserved on the day of usage for walk-in patrons. The customer must be present at the time of booking. The room CANNOT be reserved by phone or ahead of time in-person.

Requests for court appearances or other special needs must be approved by the Library Director or a designated manager.

Small Group Study Room A is limited to a maximum of twelve persons. Group Study B and C are limited to a maximum of six persons.

Additional furniture may not be moved into the rooms to exceed capacity. If room capacity is exceeded, the group will be asked to leave. Any furniture in a study room should be returned to its original position when the reservation ends.

No commercial businesses, tutoring, or solicitation of goods or services is permitted.

Non-commercial groups, such as Mahjong groups, are permitted to use the rooms. Each group may reserve only one room per week, from 7:00 PM to 8:45 PM, and may reserve up to two weeks in advance. Groups are expected to be considerate of other patrons, and keep noise levels low.

The library reserves the right to allocate a study room for a library-sponsored program or meeting.

Light snacks and covered beverages are permitted in all study rooms.

A group may only sign up for one room per day for all group study rooms. Customers may not exceed ONE booking per day (2 hours or extended to 4 hours). Moving to another room, even after only 2 hours, is not permitted.

Small Group Study Rooms can be used for up to two hours per reservation. At the end of the session, if no other group has reserved the room, a group may extend their reservation for an additional two-hour session immediately following, for a maximum of 4 hours per day.

Room reservations will only be held for 15 minutes, after that time another group may reserve the room.

Small Group Study Rooms must be vacated 15 minutes before library closing.

Users of Small Group Study Rooms must adhere to the library Code of Conduct and keep noise levels consistent with the proper atmosphere of the library at all times. Any materials left in the rooms will be removed to lost and found in the Circulation Department. Users of the group study rooms must clean up after themselves and leave the room in good condition. The person who reserved the room is responsible for the orderly conduct of the group and is liable for any damage to library property and/or equipment.

Failure to abide by library rules and policies may result in termination of Group Study Room privileges. Groups will be denied the use of a group study room if that use poses a potential disturbance to the normal operation of the library, e.g., excessive noise, a safety hazard, or a significant security risk. The Library Director, or another manager on duty, may also deny the use of a group study room to groups that violate group study room policies.

The library is not responsible for loss or damage of equipment, supplies, materials or any personal property owned by those reserving or using group study rooms at the library.

The East Brunswick Public Library Board of Trustees, the Township of East Brunswick, its officers, agents and employees are not to be held liable for any and all claims of injuries, including death, damages or loss, which may arise in connection with a group study activity held on library property.
